How to properly use a tanita body fat scale

  1. Use body fat scales to measure your own progress only. No matter how tempting do not compare your results to anyone else's.

  2. Make sure your machine is calibarated for your special circumstances, if you are very short, elderly or very athletic your machine needs to be calibarted for these circumstances in order to give an accurate reading

  3. Drink the same amount of water about 30 minutes to 1 hour before testing yourself. This will ensure the same conditions and proper hydration for each test.

  4. Take your measurements at the same time of day each time you test. Body fat fluctuates throughout the day so this is an important step.

  5. Test yourself first thing in the morning, do not test right after working out or after a big meal. When you exercise you lose water and when you eat you've added weight, mass and water to your body that will negatively impact the readings. Wait at least an hour after a meal before taking a body fat test.
